Sit has set up self-testing stations in Trondheim, Ålesund and Gjøvik where you can easily test whether you have a sexually transmitted disease.
As many students want to take tests without needing to talk to healthcare professionals, we have set up self-test stations in selected toilets on campus. This enables you to test yourself when it suits you. You will find everything you need: equipment, instructions and a deposit safe. We will take care of the rest. We will contact you if the sample tests positive. Self-testing only applies to chlamydia and gonorrhoea.
How does it work?
In Trondheim, you register by using the QR code on the poster in the designated toilet where the self-testing station is located. International students, as well as students in Ålesund and Gjøvik, register by filling out a physical form, which they put in the envelope along with their sample.
Follow the instructions on the wall and use the equipment provided. Men provide a urine sample, while women provide a swab from their vagina or anus. When you are finished, place your sample in the deposit safe.
The samples are collected weekly and sent for analysis. If your sample tests positive, you will be contacted within 14 days to arrange contact tracing and antibiotic treatment.
When do I get the result?
We will contact you if your sample tests positive. We will also send you an e-prescription so you can get antibiotics at the pharmacy.
If you don’t hear anything within two weeks, then your sample has tested negative. As the saying goes: No news is good news.
In Trondheim, your test result will be available via the digital health platform HelsaMi, if you activated the service before you registered your test.
