5 tips to kickstart your student life and journey!

Being a new student, maybe in a new town as well, can be an exciting, educational and challenging experience that you will remember for the rest of your life.

Freshers Week and the start of your studies can be an exciting time and something you look forward to. But it can also be stressful, with a lot of different expectations and emotions. This is completely normal, and something many new students experience!

What we know is that being a new student comes with lots of new impressions. This is a time where you will experience a lot, explore a new town and campus, as well as meet different people who will have an impact on your life. At the same time, you will get to know yourself – and that’s the most important of it all! Who are you and what do you need to have in your life to feel good?

Our competent Student Life Advisers have worked with students for many years, and they know how it is to be in the situation you are in now; in a new and unfamiliar town starting your studies. To make this period easier for you, they have put together 5 good tips to secure that you get a best as possible start at your student life.

Join the party

Your well-being is important, so try to join as many social activities and events in Fresher’s Week as possible! And remember – come as you are! This is a time where everyone is trying to get to know people and make friends!

Get to know people

Say hi to a fellow classmate or invite your flatmates out for a cup of coffee! Get to know people by asking questions – where are they from? What’s their favourite movie? Do you have anything in common? Act interested and be friendly to everyone, it doesn’t take a lot for someone to feel included.

Familiarise yourself

Never been to Trondheim before? Be adventurous and explore your new home! What about taking a stroll in the city centre, a hike in Bymarka or a bite to eat at Solsiden? This town has a lot to offer, so find out what you like about it.

Relax a little

You are allowed to relax and take a day off. The first couple of days are usually super busy and it can take a while to get to know people and make friends. Please keep in mind that it is normal to feel a bit overwhelmed – everything is new and unfamiliar at this point in time!

You are enough – just as you are!

We all have good days, and sometimes we have bad days – that’s part of being a student. We just want you to know that you are not alone, and we are here for you if you need someone to talk to!

Would you like to talk to someone, to air your thoughts or just have a chat? Our Student life advisers are always here for you, and as a student and a member of Sit this is of course free of charge.
