Equality

Diversity and inclusion are central in the kindergarten. The wall is decorated with flags from different countries and simple sign language illustrations.

Our student kindergartens meet everyone with respect, value diversity and ensure that the children are seen, heard and participate.

The people who come to our student kindergartens are met with respect and recognized for who they are. For us, equality means that everyone gets the same opportunity to be seen, heard and participate in the community. We value diversity and respect differences to ensure everyone feels important – to themselves and others.

Ensuring the children are seen, heard and included involves us as educators being attentive and reflective in our encounters with individual children and groups of children. Children have the right to participate based on their age and circumstances. Consequently, we follow the children’s lead – their expression, wonder and exploration in play and interaction. This gives children the opportunity to express themselves, be seen, recognised and listened to, which we call pedagogy of listening (Åberg & Taguchi, 2006).

It must be clear to children, educators and parents how we promote the children’s voices and ensure equal participation in the community. To achieve this, we use pedagogical documentation. This is our most important tool for reflection and development of the kindergarten’s educational provision in collaboration with children, parents and staff.
