Subletting

If you wish to lend/sublet your room for a period you are not using it, you have to let us know. SiT allows subletting on certain conditions. We are obligated to know who live in our residences at all times. Read about routines and rules here.

During the autumn- and the spring terms you are only permitted to sublet to other students at NTNU, HiST, DMMH or students who are studying law (jus) at Folkeuniversitetet.

The autumn term is defined as 1 September till 31 December

The spring term is defined as 1 January till 31 May

During the summer vacation, i.e. 1 June till 31 August, you are also permitted to sublet to non-students.

It is only possible to continue subletting to the same person during the autumn term if you by 31 August can document that the tenant is a student at NTNU, HiST, DMMH or at the lawstudies at Folkeuniversitetet. At the same time you must also apply again for permission to sublet during the autumn term.

The subletter is responsible towards the house owner during the subletting period.

SiT only relates to the subletter as a customer. If your tenant fails to fulfil payment of rent or other conditions of the contract this is subletter’s responsibility. The subletter will be charged with any extra costs in connections to this.

The subletter is responsible for familiarising themselves with what is written about subletting in the Tenancy Agreement (§14) http://sit.no/content/2652/Tenancy-agreement, plus inform your tenant about the whole content of the Tenancy Agreement.

For students on quota from the international section.

Any subletting of your residence must be approved by International Section at NTNU, except from the period 1 June till 31 August.

Subletting of room in a community or your own apartment?

If you wish to sublet a room in a community you are obliged to inform all your co-habitants about subletting. A room, where the common rooms are shared with others, can only be sublet to one – 1 – adult. Housing where common rooms are not shared (studio apartments, couples apartments or family apartments) can be sublet to max 2 adults.
